What is Shamanic Drumming?

Shamanic drumming is drumming for the purpose of inducing a range of ecstatic trance states in order to connect with the spiritual dimension of reality. Practiced in diverse cultures around the planet, this drum method is strikingly similar the world over. Shamanic drumming uses a repetitive rhythm that begins slowly and then gradually builds in intensity to a tempo of three to seven beats per second. The ascending tempo will induce light to deep trance states, and facilitate the shamanic techniques of journeyingshapeshifting, and divination. Practitioners may progress through a series of trance states until they reach the level that is necessary for healing to occur. When ready to exit the trance state, the practitioner simply slows the tempo of drumming, drawing consciousness back to normal. Shamanic drumming continues to offer today what it has offered for thousands of years: namely, a simple and effective technique of ecstasy.

I leave the house with my drum on hand, the city is just starting to wake up
I feel almost invisible in the city
I sing and I play my drum
The words of the song start coming to me
The only song I seem to remember for now
With me I have music instruments
colors, a bottle of barley tea and two cameras
In my recordings I decide to collect what I think has to do with the seed
My plan for today is to find farms and ask for seeds to plant in my garden

I drink a cup of barley tea just before I leave Brussels
I enjoy the taste,
Its flavor is simple and basic
There is a forest on my right, where I stop to take a break
My back is burning from caring the backpack
I find a tree and I sit on its lap
I stick my back on it and I can feel the fire going out by the dewiness of the tree
I put my arms around it and crack my back open
I start walking in the forest
I find a totem
I take my drum but it does not want to play anymore
I ask permission from the totem and inspiration for this work
I ask for the world of the seed to open to me
And permission to open it as well
I feel that the door is closed

Maybe I do not put the time it needs
I make an offering and I feel it being accepted
There is an opening

I get permission, and I go

I get to a small village with a beautiful lake, swans, ducks and geese
A present
My ideas become clearer
I realize that the walk is over and this walk was about asking permission
I warm my belly in the sun

On seeds

Les glaneurs et la glaneuse

On readymade

After a talk at the Hellenic American Union last night

My take on the conversation that though interesting it never had a litrosis

Readymade is not an abstract term. It is a specific name that Marcel Duchamp gave to a series of works that had beginning and END! He had predetermined the end of this production knowing himself that the work could not continue, otherwise the farse would seize to have power. Later on this work opened up many doors etc, introduced a new medium and liberties to artist and eventually developed to a three dimensional collage. Collage is not something that has less of a value but it is not a readymade. It is not more or less interesting than another work of art just because it uses found objects, it is just a different medium. Not even Marcel Duchamp could continue to make readymades, because the power of this work couldn’t have repeated once the statement was made. What happened to that statement, apart of the “liberation” that it brought to the techniques and ideas that came later on, is what happens to every revolution. It got drowned and arts way of drowning a revolution is absorbing it and creating a market around it.

The next revolution that we see and we will see hopefully in full development that challenged the commercial system is Open Source, where the fear of holding on to an idea gets demolished, and the power of the market gets frowned upon.
