2$ was a public performance in which I sold DVD’s of drawing lessons. The DVD consists of three images which are displayed, one after another: a still life, a standing figure, and a portrait. Additionally there is background audio of my friend Keith Pavia guiding the viewer through art history and drawing instruction.
Once I had produced the DVD I sold it in Union Square for the price of two dollars a price that did not cover my production cost. The DVD was forty minutes long and was produced both in black & white and in color. I modeled myself after the people who sell DVD’s on the street to make a living, and by selling my own I encouraged the public to embrace art.
The performance took place in Union Square.
